JD Vance's "Hillbilly Elegy" film is now a streaming hit

JD Vance's status as former President Trump's running mate has given the movie based on his 2016 memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," a big streaming boost.

Driving the news: "Hillbilly Elegy" was one of the most-streamed movies by U.S. Netflix customers last week and was still in the streaming service's top-five as of Tuesday.

• The 2020 adaptation starring Gabriel Vasso as Vance and Amy Adams as his mother is also the third-most-searched movie on Rotten Tomatoes behind blockbuster "Twisters" and horror-thriller "Longlegs."

The intrigue: The surge has occurred despite Netflix critics panning the film with a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

• Yes, but: Audience scores have been much more favorable with more than 2,500 ratings and an approval of 82% on the site.

Between the lines: Vance's memoir is also back on Amazon's bestseller book list.
