The cutest little patio you ever did see. Photo: Sam Allard/Axios
👋 Sam here, reporting slackjawed from one of my newest favorite patios in town.
State of play: 49th Street Tavern, at Harvard Avenue and East 49th Street in Cuyahoga Heights, is one of the last places in Northeast Ohio you'd expect to encounter a serene outdoor dining environment.
During the day, an endless procession of tractor-trailers and pickup trucks arrive and depart from the cluster of manufacturing companies and machine shops down the street.
Its noisy neighbors are a BP gas station and I-77.
I'd only ever been indoors, to nurse a late-night domestic or nosh on a surprise food special.
Yes, but: The patio is where it's at.
Vibe check: Guardos on the TVs; string lights overhead; Americana and handsome shrubbery in the periphery.
Between the lines: With apologies to the youths, a sign on the entrance decrees that you must be 30 years or older after 9pm — "No Exceptions!"
What I drank: A sweating Miller High Life and an evening summer breeze, miraculously unsullied by heavy industry.
Stop by: The bar is open daily until 1am.
Editor's note: This item has been corrected to note that 49th Street Tavern is located in Cuyahoga Heights (not Newburgh Heights) next to a BP (not Shell) gas station.
