👋 Sam here. For book club last week, I wanted to bring an easy-drinking lager that I could nurse for the evening and share with the group.
I needed my wits about me while discussing Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah's brutal dystopian novel "Chain-Gang All-Stars."
Beer of the week: I picked up a 15-pack of Fat Head's Leaf Man Lager ($17.99), the new year-round offering brewed in partnership with Cleveland Metroparks.
Zoom in: According to its description, Leaf Man has a "refreshing pilsner malt character" with "light cracker and biscuit-like flavors."
It tasted like regular old beer to me. (That's a compliment.)
Between the lines: A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Cleveland Metroparks Trails Fund, which Fat Head's has previously supported with proceeds from its Trail Head Pale Ale.
Flashback: In 2020, the Metroparks began a partnership with Market Garden Brewery as well.
Proceeds from the Pin High Pilsner go toward youth golf educational programs at Metroparks golf courses.
The bottom line: Leaf Man is a step up from your domestic light lagers.
The standard 15-pack makes it a cost-effective option for summer barbecues and get-togethers.
