"The Astro," Cleveland's new sci-fi-themed restaurant in the former Tower City home of the Hard Rock Cafe, is now open.

The big picture: The 196-seat restaurant, with decor inspired by famous science fiction films, is the brainchild of the men who launched The Haunted House Restaurant in Cleveland Heights.

  • At a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, managing partner Andre Scott said the transformation of the space entailed 10 months of sleepless nights.

What they're saying: Cleveland City Council president Blaine Griffin said small businesses are the backbone of Cleveland, and celebrated the presence of a thriving, Black-owned business "breathing new life into a long dormant corner of Tower City."

The vibe: The large dining area is flanked by murals created by local artists Isaiah Williams and Derek Walker.

  • A 30-seat "Men in Black" bar is an ode to the Will Smith franchise.

What to expect: Scott tells Axios that the menu is a mix of contemporary American and seafood options.

Stop by: The Astro is open Tuesday-Sunday for dinner service. Reservations are available through Open Table.
