When Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley are dominating the interior, the Cavs look like a scary basketball team.

Record: (46-30); Last week: (44-28)

Weekly slate: Loss at Charlotte (118-111); Win vs. Philadelphia (117-114); Loss at Denver (130-101); Win at Utah (129-113).

The latest: After a crushing loss to the Nuggets Sunday, the Cavs rebounded against the hapless Jazz last night, with Allen and Mobley asserting themselves early.

  • Sam Merrill erupted for six three-pointers, and every member of the starting five dished out five assists or more.

The big picture: The Cavs, Knicks and Magic are jockeying daily for the third seed in the Eastern Conference.

  • With the win last night, the Cavs have regained control. They are no doubt crossing their fingers for a first-round playoff matchup against the Orlando Magic or the Indiana Pacers.

👍 Weekly winner: Mobley. He's playing with renewed aggression and defensive clairvoyance since returning from injury.

  • He is 7-12 from three-point range in the last six games.

ğŸ‘Ž Weekly loser: Darius Garland. It's been a rough season for the embattled point guard, who continues to commit costly turnovers and play with a confounding lack of urgency and purpose.

What's next: Tonight at Phoenix; Saturday at Los Angeles Lakers; Sunday at Los Angeles Clippers.
