We're roughly a month away from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announcing its class of 2024. Let's look at where things stand.

Why it matters: The artists will be inducted during a ceremony on a yet-to-be-revealed date in Cleveland this fall.

Catch up quick: The nominees are Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane's Addiction, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O'Connor, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade and A Tribe Called Quest.

How it works: A voting pool of more than 1,000 music historians, journalists and previous inductees will select the class of 2024.

State of play: Traditionally, the Rock Hall's annual fan vote has been a solid indicator of induction, with the No. 1 vote-getter being inducted all but once since 2012.

  • The top seven vote-getters — currently DMB, Foreigner, Osbourne, Frampton, Cher, Kravitz and Carey — will constitute a single "fan ballot" added to the voting pool.

Yes, but: Dave Matthews Band is the one act that failed to earn induction after winning the fan vote in 2020.

  • George Michael was the only artist from last year's "fan ballot" to earn induction.

What they're saying: "It's been driving me mad," Osbourne recently told Rolling Stone.

  • "It's an honor that I'm nominated, but I'm not expecting to get in. There's Mariah Carey, there's Cher, Lenny Kravitz. I'm up against some serious people."

💭 My thought bubble: Last year's fan vote was an anomaly. I expect Osbourne, Cher, Carey, Kravitz and Frampton to all get in.

  • But DMB fans may be disappointed again.
