Simpli City Cafe, a new coffee shop emphasizing less processed ingredients in its drinks, is now open in lower South End.
Why it matters: Owner Marian Chism's cafe gives lower South End customers another coffee option, one that skips seed oils and heavily processed sugars.
What they're saying: Chism tells Axios that becoming a mom made her more intentional about what she puts in her body, an approach she now brings to the cafe's menu.
- "With the craze around coffee, that's something that's kind of missing right now. It's a lot of sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, and we didn't really want to be that. When we sweeten our drinks, we will use organic raw cane sugar, which your body digests a lot better than processed sugar, as well as agave and honey," Chism said.
What to expect: The menu includes seasonal drinks like a sweet potato chai, coffee made with locally roasted beans from Jags Head, housemade syrups and pastries.
- There's also a limited-time pumpkin spice tiramisu made in-house, smoothies with ingredients including sea moss or probiotic yogurt, and fruit-forward refreshers.
The vibe: The 700-square-foot cafe is located in the same building as Platform Sports and Sun's Kitchen. There are two tables with about four seats inside and a few outdoor patio seats.
- "We wanted to be over here on the rail trail because if you walk the Rail Trail daily, that's a part of your wellness. Grabbing a drink with healthier ingredients can also be a part of someone's daily routine. It can be a part of their health routine."
Stop by: Find Simpli City Cafe at 3216 South Blvd #101. It's open Monday–Friday 7am-4pm and Saturday 9am-2pm.
- It's closed on Sundays, except for Simply Sundays once a month, when she opens on a Sunday for a free pop-up event.
