Watch your back: The hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees will be hiding out at SCarowinds this spooky season at the park's new immersive "Friday the 13th" haunted maze.
Why it matters: Carowinds is making an unprecedented investment in Scarowinds, securing the licensing for the "Jason: Blood Reign" maze on top of bringing back "The Conjuring: Beyond Fear" attraction this fall.
- "This is the most investment we've made in this event within two consecutive years," says Chris Foshee, Carowinds' public relations manager.
What to expect: The attraction uses smoke effects in the camp cabin, water to bring Crystal Lake to life, movie-like sets to recreate Jason's iconic kills, and as many as 20-40 actors to scare participants.
- "If someone enjoys going into these types of things, you're gonna love it," says Matt Riggle, entertainment manager. "If you're someone who is scared of these things, you will be scared."
- Carowinds recommends it for ages 13 and up, but says it's ultimately up to parents' discretion.
Behind the scenes: Plague Productions designed the Jason attraction, the same company behind "The Conjuring" experience. Work to get the maze up and running has taken months, starting in early summer.
If you go: Haunted mazes are included in the park's Haunted Attraction Pass, starting around $10.
- SCarowinds admission includes rides, live shows, scare zones, street entertainment and daytime events like Tricks and Treats and Oktoberfest.
- "The Conjuring: Beyond Fear," which is more like an escape room, requires a separate reservation.
Zoom out: SCarowinds has 17 other attractions: six haunted mazes and five scare zones, six live shows, plus the park's rides.
