Carowinds will open Rip Roarin' Falls, a 100-foot flume ride that's said to break three world records, in 2027.
Why it matters: One of the tallest water rides ever, the 6.5-minute Rip Roarin' Falls ride is one of Carowinds' biggest attraction reveals in years.
By the numbers: It's expected to be the highest log flume drop at 100 feet, reverse drop at 42 feet, and reverse camelback at 32 feet.
What to expect: Throughout the abandoned lumber mill-themed ride, boats of eight passengers will change directions twice and speed up to 50 mph.
- Riders will be sent backward and forward through 2,240 feet of water, ending with the 100-foot plunge.
- Children at least 35 inches tall can ride if accompanied. The height limit is 41 inches otherwise.
- "It's like a mix of a family ride and a thrill ride, and you don't see that anywhere else," says park president Bridgette Bywater.
What they're saying: Carowinds executives say this ride has been in the works for years, responding to guest demand to bring a water attraction back to the 400-acre amusement park on the state line.
- The attraction replaces Rip Roarin' Rapids, a water ride retired in 2019.
- "For as long as we've been asking the question, this has been a number one most requested attraction," Bywater says. "Our team took that feedback and supercharged it."
What's next: Construction is underway. The ride opens next year.
