Scoop: Good Food on Montford to close, new restaurant to take its place

One of Charlotte's best-known restaurants is entering a new chapter as Moffett Restaurant Group owner Bruce Moffett steps away from Good Food on Montford after nearly two decades, handing the space to a longtime MRG employee to launch her own concept.

Why it matters: Good Food on Montford was among a wave of restaurants that helped redefine Charlotte's dining scene when it opened in 2009, with globally inspired small plates and ingredients from local farms — a novel concept in the city at the time, Axios previously reported.

What's happening: Bruce Moffett won't renew Good Food on Montford's lease when it expires at the end of August, the restaurant group tells Axios.

The restaurant's last day will be Saturday, Aug. 29.
Instead, Lee Ann Dolcetto, an 18-year Moffett Restaurant Group employee who most recently served as general manager of Stagioni and Sala, will take over the space and open her own restaurant, Bittersweet.
Charlotte hospitality veteran Tiffany Dunn, formerly of Rare Roots Hospitality (Fin & Fino, Chapter 6), will become the new general manager of Stagioni and Sala.

Zoom out: Good Food has earned national recognition during its run, including a James Beard Award nomination, Unpretentious Palate reported.

Moffett, a veteran Charlotte restaurateur, is also behind Barrington's, Stagioni, Bao and Broth and the European-inspired cocktail lounge Sala.

What they're saying: "I have always believed in setting up our loyal employees for success," Moffett said in a press release, calling Bittersweet an opportunity for Dolcetto to build her own brand in a space with a proven track record.

What's next: The Good Food space is slated for a full transformation during a two-month renovation as it transitions into Bittersweet.

Moffett plans to focus on new projects that could take shape in early 2027, though the restaurant group hasn't shared additional details. He will continue to own and run MRG and oversee the restaurant group's growth.
