Sloomoo Institute, an immersive slime experience, is open in Midtown.
Why it matters: The 7,500-square-foot attraction in the Metropolitan adds to Charlotte's immersive entertainment boom while giving both kids and adults another indoor activity this summer.
State of play: Sloomoo soft-opened earlier this month with limited capacity. Its grand opening is this Saturday, July 18.
Context: The interactive slime destination launched in New York City in 2019 and has since expanded Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston and now Charlotte. Its Washington, D.C. location will open next.

What to expect: The Charlotte location makes about 600 gallons of slime on-site each day, co-founder Sara Schiller tells Axios.
Highlights include:
- A DIY slime bar with more than 4 million possible combinations of textures, colors and scents, where you can create and take home an eight-ounce slime.
- A slime waterfall where visitors can get a full Nickelodeon-style sliming. (We tried it and can confirm it's a full dousing.)
- Lake Sloomoo, a 500-gallon pool of slime you can walk across.
- A kinetic sand play area
- Loomoosh's Lounge, where cameras and motion sensors create colorful slime projections that follow your movements.
- Sensory-friendly hours on select dates.

Fun fact: The main ingredient in Sloomoo's slime is glue. It also contains borax, a common ingredient in contact solution, which the company says helps keep it naturally clean, and the vats are changed frequently.
- The slime may stick on your hands a little depending on texture, but all of it comes off easily with wipes (which there are plenty throughout the space).
Yes, and: Before entering the main play area, guests take a short quiz to meet their Sloomoo sidekick and receive a slime name by replacing the vowels in their own name with "oo."

If you go: You must reserve a time slot when purchasing tickets. General admission ranges from $31.99 to $39.99, depending on the day and time, and includes one 8-ounce DIY slime.
- VIP admission also includes the slime waterfall experience.
- Wear play clothes and skip your favorite shoes.

Stop by: 1100 Metropolitan Ave. The Metropolitan offers free parking for guests on levels P1-P3 of its parking deck.
