Two new virtual reality experiences are coming to Blume Studios this spring, with one taking visitors to space and the other allowing them to walk through history.
Why it matters: Blume Studios — Blumenthal Arts' immersive art hub — is betting big on VR, using the June 11 opening of its new experiences to launch Blume Studios VR.
The big picture: Charlotte is seeing an immersive experience boom, with at least five set to open around town this spring. Three of these experiences are at Blume Studios.
State of play: "Life Chronicles" and "Space Explorers: The ISS Experience" open June 11 at Blume Studios, joining "Horizon of Khufu." The experiences run through Aug. 30.
What to expect: You choose which VR experience you want, as all three will be available at the same time. Each experience runs 45 minutes.
- "Life Chronicles" takes you through 3.5 billion years of the Earth's history. You'll navigate volcanic coastlines, ancient oceans and swamp forests and run into a few dinosaurs.
- "Space Explorers: The ISS Experience" includes more than 250 hours of footage filmed inside and outside the International Space Station. You'll see astronauts' daily lives and travel through space.
- "Horizon of Khufu" takes you inside the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Context: "Life Chronicles" is from the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle and Excurio (the "Horizon of Khufu" creator).
- "Space Explorers: The ISS Experience" is from the same team behind "Space Explorers: The Infinite," which was Blume Studios' first VR experience in 2024.

If you go: Tickets start at $36. Blume Studios is at 904 Post St.
- The experiences are recommended for ages 8 and up.
