Charlotte Running Co. will relocate its longtime Dilworth location to Park Road Shopping Center this fall in the former Bruegger's Bagels and Caribou Coffee space.
Why it matters: CRC's new spot will feature the traditional aspects of a running store, plus recovery options and coffee.
The latest: CRC will relocate from its 2,400-square-foot Dilworth location to the 4,600-square-foot space just off Charlotte's popular Little Sugar Creek Greenway.
- The new store will open later this fall. CRC founder Scott Dvorak tells Axios the plan is to keep the Dilworth location operational until it's ready to move into the Park Road Shopping Center spot.
- CRC will take over the Park Road Shopping Center space on Aug. 1 to begin work on the space.
- The Sole, CRC's popular running club that meets Thursdays at 6am at the Dilworth location, will transition to Park Road Shopping Center this fall.
What to expect: Dvorak, who moved to Charlotte in 1994, envisions the new location as a gathering space. Since the location served as the longtime home for Caribou Coffee, it made sense to have a coffee bar in the larger space, he says. The Sole typically has a post-run coffee stop.
- The new space will also serve beer and wine.
- A local sports doctor will provide specific treatments in the rehab room. There will also be a locker room and shower.
- CRC is considering a sauna, cold plunge, Normatec sleeves and red light therapy. The exact lineup is TBD.
- There will also be more retail options.
Context: CRC has called the Dilworth location home for 23 years, Dvorak says. The beloved local brand has four locations as it plans to make a major move.
The big picture: Running is booming right now. There are more than 130 run clubs in Charlotte, Dvorak says. Despite the growing size of Charlotte's running scene, the community remains tight-knit, Dvorak says.
- "I see people in the running community everywhere I go," Dvorak says. Now he hopes to create a hub where they can gather.
