Kristoffer Reitan won the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club in south Charlotte Sunday. It was his first PGA Tour win.
Why it matters: This was the first taste of what's to come with Charlotte's annual PGA Tour event with Charlotte-based bank Truist as the title sponsor.
What they're saying: Sales were up across the board for the tournament, from tickets to merchandise to food and beverage, Johno Harris, the tournament's executive committee chairman, tells Axios.
What's next: Truist is the tournament's title sponsor through 2031.
What we're watching: Charlotte has hosted the PGA Championship twice (2017 and 2025) and the Presidents Cup in 2022. Quail Hollow Club could host another major, but which and when are to be determined.
"This week's a perfect example," Harris tells Axios when asked about hosting a future major. The goal is to showcase the best players in the world and the Charlotte region. "If we continue to do that, opportunities are endless, and we'll see what happens," Harris says.
