American Airlines says it has no interest in a merger with United Airlines.
Catch up quick: United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has floated the idea of a merger with American, as Bloomberg first reported. Combining the two airlines would create the world's largest airline.
What they're saying: "American Airlines is not engaged with or interested in any discussions regarding a merger with United Airlines," American Airlines said in a statement Friday.
"While changes in the broader airline marketplace may be necessary, a combination with United would be negative for competition and for consumers," the statement reads.
