USMNT to play World Cup sendoff match in Charlotte

State of play: The USMNT opponent is TBD, and will be determined following Friday's FIFA World Cup draw at noon. The match is being billed as the "Allstate Continental Clásico."

• TNT, HBO Max, Telemundo, Universo and Peacock will air the match.

What's next: Ticket presales begin on Dec. 3. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Dec. 5.

Zoom in: This will be the USMNT's second time playing in Charlotte. The first was in 2023 when they beat Trinidad and Tobago in a group stage Concacaf Gold Cup match at Bank of America Stadium.

What we're watching: While the USMNT roster won't be set for months, players with Charlotte ties to keep an eye on include Charlotte FC defender Tim Ream and former Charlotte FC striker Patrick Agyemang, who left for Derby County in England earlier this year.

The big picture: Charlotte will not host a 2026 FIFA World Cup match, but summer won't be devoid of soccer around here. Bank of America Stadium, which has hosted big events like the Gold Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, will host the 2026 MLS All-Star Game.

• Charlotte is in the running to be a host city for the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup. Tepper Sports & Entertainment and the Charlotte Sports Foundation are collaborating on the bid, as well as the MLS All-Star Game and the USMNT sendoff match.
