Charlotte in the running to host 2031 Women's World Cup

State of play: Bank of America Stadium would be Charlotte's host venue. Tepper Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Carolina Panthers (NFL) and Charlotte FC (MLS) and operates the stadium, is working with the Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF), a local sports nonprofit.

• CSF has organized multiple events throughout Charlotte, including at Bank of America Stadium.

Flashback: TSE owner David Tepper said in April he wanted to host the 2031 tournament.

• At the time, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was at Bank of America Stadium to promote the FIFA Club World Cup.
• Infantino called Charlotte is a "hot candidate" as a host city for the Women's World Cup.

Zoom out: Other potential cities include Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Birmingham, Boston, Cincinnati, Cleveland/Columbus, Indianapolis, Miami, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco/Bay Area, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and New York/New Jersey.

• The bid also includes cities in Mexico (Guadalajara, Monterrey, Pachuca, Torreón, Querétaro and Mexico City), Kingston, Jamaica and San José, Costa Rica.

What's next: FIFA will evaluate potential hosts based on criteria, including infrastructure. Hosts will be chosen by the 75th FIFA Congress in Vancouver on April 30, 2026, per a release.
