Local ice creamery Two Scoops opens a new location in NoDa on Saturday, Nov. 8, in the former Pop Bar space.
Why it matters: The new NoDa shop expands the homegrown chain to nine locations since its 2016 start on Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood.
What to expect: 24 flavors — including a seasonal scoops like "Not Your Mama's Pumpkin Pie," plus classics like "Cookie Monster" and "Cookies by the Sea."
- Like its other shops, Two Scoops NoDa serves holiday pies, custom ice-cream cakes and pints to go.
- They've also turned their popular "Cookies by the Sea" flavor into an actual cookie.
Fun fact: Two Scoops makes over 200 flavors throughout the year, the team tells me. Typically, no shops have the same flavors all at once and menus change every day.
Stop by: Find Two Scoops NoDa at 3123 N. Davidson St.
If you go: The shop will open host its grand opening at 1pm on Saturday, and customers can expect a range of giveaways, the team says.
- For now, hours will be Sunday-Thursday 1-9pm and Friday-Saturday 1-10pm.
What's next: They're still working on completing the mural inside the store. Once it's finished, it'll have a photo-op section in the back of the store.
Zoom out: Two Scoops was co-founded by three friends: Rich Moyer, Marques Johnson and Jae Hatchett and, in addition to NoDa, currently operates stores in Plaza Midwood, South End, Concord, Matthews, Mooresville, Rock Hill and Spartanburg, S.C.
My thought bubble: I'll probably never cheat on my go-to "Cookies by the Sea" order (Oreos and salted caramel), but I tried the Dubai chocolate flavor on my visit, and it was incredible.
- The team told me they sometimes take customer flavor requests. When I asked for the wildest one they've gotten, the answer: jalapeño bacon. (Hey, I see the vision).
