Daimler Truck Financial Services USA (DTFS), Daimler Truck North America's financial lending arm, is relocating its headquarters to Charlotte, a move that'll add 276 local jobs, Gov. Josh Stein announced Tuesday.
Why it matters: The financial services company's decision speaks to the region's banking roots and local talent — Charlotte is home to the headquarters of Bank of America and Truist, and it's Wells Fargo's largest employee base.
- The move also aims to bring DTFS closer to some of Daimler Truck North America's manufacturing facilities throughout the Carolinas, per the company.
What to expect: DTFS's new headquarters will be in Ballantyne — in the Boyle Building at 13034 Ballantyne Corporate Pl. The local headquarters will consolidate DTFS's existing offices in Michigan and Texas.
- The 60,000-square-foot Charlotte offices will include administration, human resources and financial operations. DTFS says it'll invest more than $7.8 million to set up its headquarters here.
- 83 positions will transfer from other locations, and 193 jobs will be created in Charlotte, according to the city.
- The average annual salary of $133,940. Mecklenburg County's average salary is $86,830.
By the numbers: The state is offering roughly $4.2 million in incentives and grants over 12 years if the company meets its job-creation and investment goals.
- As part of the deal, $1.39 million will be moved into the state's Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account, which supports infrastructure improvements to attract future business in the state's rural areas.
Between the lines: Neither Mecklenburg County nor the City of Charlotte is providing incentives for this project, local spokespeople tell Axios.
- DTFS did not provide a timeline for its move to Charlotte.
What they're saying: "Charlotte is well established as a global financial center," Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said in a statement. "Companies like Daimler Truck Financial Services USA are drawn to Charlotte because of our deep talent pool and affordability."
