DaBaby wants to create the next "theme song" of the Carolinas

What they're saying: "We've got to give ourselves another theme song," DaBaby told WFNZ. "Petey Pablo's been holding it down for decades for us."

A Tepper Sports & Entertainment spokesperson confirms they have had conversations with DaBaby but have nothing to share at this point.

The big picture: DaBaby has a complicated history with his hometown. He's one of the biggest names to come out of Charlotte in recent years and has repped the city with sports jerseys and shout-outs in his lyrics. But as his career was exploding, he frequently had run-ins with police that seemed to overlap with his concert dates.

• "It's really sad because we try not to be the artist that blows up and moves to California," DaBaby's manager told Axios in 2020. "But it's pretty bad when you're getting pulled over and searched like random thugs."

Yes, but: DaBaby is now throwing his first official "homecoming show" Wednesday night at Spectrum Center. With a star-studded lineup including 50 Cent and Sexyy Red, he says it will be "the biggest party that has ever taken place in the city of Charlotte."

• Last year DaBaby performed at Lovin' Life, along with Pablo, and surprised students with a visit at Garinger High. Lovin' Life Music Fest donated $10,000 to the school's music program as part of the surprise.
