Expect snow tonight

Charlotte is expected to get 1-2 inches of snow this evening, according to WBTV meteorologists.

Why it matters: Everyone is either freaking out or scoffing at those who are freaking out.

• The last measurable snowfall in Charlotte was 0.2 inches on Jan. 29, 2022.

Zoom in: Several local businesses and services are closed today because of the forecast.

• CMS canceled schools for the day.
• All Mecklenburg County facilities will close at noon today and remain closed on Saturday, Jan. 11.
• Charlotte-area homeless shelters — including Roof Above and the Salvation Army Center of Hope — will have additional capacity over the weekend in response to the forecasted winter weather. CATS buses will transport people to these shelter locations free of charge Friday through Sunday.

What's next: By tomorrow morning, the winter storm will pull away and we'll have sunshine through the weekend.
