Uptown's New Year's Eve celebration will look different this year

Uptown's annual New Year's Eve celebration is moving to Truist Field for the first time ever.
Why it matters: In past years, CLT NYE, hosted by Charlotte Center City Partners, has taken place a couple of blocks over at Levine Avenue of the Arts with a fireworks show.
What to expect: The event will run for two hours — from 10pm to midnight inside the ballpark.
- Guests will be able to experience the Light the Knights Festival, which is extending its hours of operation for ice skating (but no snow tubing or Christmas market) until 11:30pm.
- The evening will end with a fireworks show and champagne toast, which is included in the admission price. Attendees under 21 will get apple cider.
- Additional drinks and concessions will be available for purchase.
If you go: CLT NYE will be a separately ticketed event, Tommy Viola, VP of Communications for the Charlotte Knights, tells Axios.
- Light the Knights will also run from 2-9pm earlier that day, but all guests wanting to attend the New Year's Eve festivities must leave the field by 9pm and re-enter with a new ticket at 10pm.
- General admission tickets for CLT NYE are $10. A $25 ticket includes ice skating from 10-11:30pm before the fireworks show. Kids younger than three enter free.
- Parking can be purchased for $15 for the Mint Street Parking Garage (410 S. Mint St.). on the Knights' website ahead of time.
Flashback: During last year's CLT NYE, a man shot into a crowd in Romare Bearden Park, wounding five people.
- Months earlier, on July 4th, 32 people were arrested after fights broke out and shots were fired in the same location during Uptown's fireworks show.
What they're saying: Representatives for the Charlotte Knights did not confirm whether the decision to move the event to Truist Field was directly related to past incidents. However, they stated that Charlotte Center City Partners approached them to "tie the Light the Knights Festival into the New Year's Eve celebration."
- Viola also emphasized that safety precautions will be in place, including requiring all attendees to enter through the stadium gates, similar to how they do at a Knights game.
What's next: It's unconfirmed whether the partnership between the Knights and Charlotte Center City Partners will continue beyond this year.
