There's nothing like family visiting for Thanksgiving.
- Here are six ways to show off Charlotte, and if you need more ideas, Axios' McKenzie Rankin has you covered.
Why it matters: You shouldn't be bored in Charlotte over Thanksgiving.
Get festive
There's so much to see and do around the city over the holidays, from light displays to the Thanksgiving parade, plus the tree lighting at Bank of America Stadium.
Axios' Alexis Clinton recently wrote about all the best ways to bask in the holiday spirit, including plenty of places to ice skate.

Get outside
Put your phone down, unless it's to take a photo or video with your family. Hit the greenway. Walk around your favorite park (I'm partial to Independence Park in Elizabeth for the skyline views and greenway connection).

Feel artsy
Whether you're wandering around a museum or gallery, taking in a bit of theater or snacking on popcorn at Charlotte's indie movie theater, there are plenty of ways to enjoy art in Charlotte.
- Don't forget to check out a mural or two.

Grab a taste of the city
We've got you covered with kid-friendly and fine-dining restaurants.

Shop local
If you plan to tackle your nice list this week, there are plenty of ways to support your neighbors and show your visiting family and friends some of your favorite spots.
- Shop Small Saturday in South End will have more than 120 vendors.
- If you know a bunch of book lovers, check out our independent bookstore guide.
My thought bubble: If you have a beer connoisseur in your family or friend group, it's fun to pick a few cans you think they'd like and create a little "taste of Charlotte" gift.
- While this might be difficult to pack if you're flying, several Charlotte breweries have locations at the airport.

Go to a game
Cheer on the Charlotte Hornets, Charlotte Checkers and Carolina Panthers. The Hornets have multiple home games this week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Full schedule). The Checkers are home Friday and Saturday (full schedule). The Panthers host Tampa Bay on Sunday.
- Bring a stuffed animal for the Checkers' Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday.
My thought bubble: One of my favorite Thanksgiving memories remains our entire family going to a Hornets game on Thanksgiving weekend. We sat in the nosebleeds and had a blast. I was in high school and it was my first NBA game.
