Gotcha Matcha & Espresso has found a permanent home in Uptown.
Why it matters: The popular matcha and coffee shop has only operated as a pop-up business around Charlotte — until now.
State of play: The new Gotcha Matcha recently opened inside 200 S. Tryon St. — a high-rise in Third Ward that also houses tenants like McCormick & Schmick's Steakhouse and Pearl Dentistry.
Catch up quick: Owner Eric Hicklen first opened Gotcha Matcha as a pop-up inside South End wine bar The Coterie Concept in 2023.
- Last spring, it held a temporary residency inside the co-working space Tabbris on South Boulevard.
What to expect: Much of the menu is the same — with over a dozen matcha lattes to choose from — like the classic "Gotcha Matcha latte" to flavors like Biscoff, coconut and ube (a Filipino purple yam).

Sip on this: A full espresso menu is also available (try a dirty matcha, which is a matcha latte with a shot of espresso), plus loose-leaf teas and a variety of refreshers.
- Seasonal lattes include a matcha chai, a pumpkin spice matcha and more coming soon.
- All drinks are made with oat milk unless otherwise specified.
Best bites: Guests can still expect a pastry menu of Asian-inspired treats (like the popular ube cinnamon rolls).
What's next: Hicklen says he plans to roll out Christmas drinks soon, including a gingerbread matcha, an eggnog matcha latte and a black tea beverage called Christmas in a Cup.
- He also says fan favorites — like the red velvet latte — will make a return.

Stop by: Find Gotcha Matcha at 200 South Tryon St. Walk past the right side of the front desk. The cafe is down the hallway on the left.
- It will be open on Thanksgiving. Regular hours are Monday-Saturday 7am-6pm.
Editor's note: This story has been corrected to show that an ube is a Filipino purple yam (not a Japanese sweet potato).
