Uptown rooftop bar Merchant & Trade gets major makeover

Merchant & Trade just completed a $1.5 million revamp of its rooftop bar in Uptown.
Why it matters: It's one of Charlotte's best rooftop bars and this is the first major renovation to the bar since it opened in 2017.
The vibe: With new wooden floors, more greenery and tropical-house music bumping through the speakers, Merchant & Trade transports you out of Charlotte and into an "urban oasis," director of restaurants, bars, and events for Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel Chris Baliles says.
What to expect: The 4,500-square-foot space now has additional seating, new furniture and fixtures, a revamped VIP section and a DJ booth front and center.
Dig in: In addition to Merchant & Trade favorites like the "Bougie Tots" (topped with truffle creme fraiche and caviar), executive chef Farid Ahmed created a new menu focusing on dishes from the Low Country.
- Merchant & Trade has committed $1 million to Carolina Farm Trust, a local nonprofit working to strengthen local food systems, and most of what you eat will be sourced locally.
Stop by: 303 S. Church St., on the 19th floor of the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel in Uptown.
- Open Tuesday-Friday 5pm-midnight, Saturdays 2pm-midnight and Sundays 2pm-10pm.
