The Carolina Panthers enter training camp with a new head coach, a new general manager and a new venue.
Why it matters: Training camp meant a trip to Spartanburg for decades, drawing thousands of fans. Now it will take place in Uptown and eventually there will be a new practice facility, too.
State of play: Starting today, the team will hold several practices that are open to the public, most of which are at the practice fields behind the stadium. All but two have sold out:
- July 27: Back Together Saturday will take place at Bank of America Stadium at 9:30am. Tickets are free.
- Aug. 1: Fan Fest, which will take place at Clemson's Memorial Stadium in South Carolina at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 and proceeds will benefit Carolina Panthers charities.
If you go: If you snagged tickets to one of the practices at the practice fields, the main entrance is at 705 W. 4th St.
What to expect: Players will have access to a cooling trailer to help cope with the heat. It cost $200,000 and is a common practice among other teams, both in the NFL and at the collegiate level.
- Fans may bring two water bottles inside and there is a water refilling station.
- Plus there are covered bleachers in each end zone, a team store and concessions, as our news partners at WBTV reported.
What's next: The Panthers host the Jets in a preseason game on Aug. 17 at 7pm. Tickets start at $10.
