Panzú Brewery serves Caribbean-inspired food and craft beer in Mint Hill

Driving the news: Panzú opened in September and temporarily shuttered due to a fire. The business recently reopened.

Why it matters: Panzú is the first and only brewery in Mint Hill. That’s one of the reasons co-owners Rosa and Johan Marte decided on this location.

• The city of Charlotte, on the other hand, has no shortage of breweries — with more than 40 local options to choose from.  

Background: Rosa and Johan are siblings from the Dominican Republic who gained their love for native flavors and beer from their father. 

• They tell Axios that Panzú, meaning “big beer belly guy,” was named after their father.
• To honor him, they wanted to showcase the best of their heritage through food and beer.

“We wanted Panzú to be a melting pot of Caribbean cultures,” Rosa said.

Menu: Menu items will be served tapas-style with signature dishes typically found in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

• Expect 16 beers on tap including tropical IPAs, ales, wheat plus porter and stout beers. 

The space: The 3,000-square-foot brewery was originally an old house that now has plenty of indoor seating and outdoor patio seating.

• There’s local Caribbean-inspired artwork located throughout the brewery.  

Details: It’s located in downtown Mint Hill at 7251 Matthews-Mint Hill Road.

• It’s open Tuesday through Friday from 4-10pm, Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday 12-7pm and closed Monday.
