October meant a lot of comfort food for our team. Although the weather didn’t call for it, we gravitated mainly towards broths and pasta.

Here are six of the best dishes we ate in October, listed in no particular order.

Lamb stroganoff from The Crunkleton

We had the lamb stroganoff ($32) with a side of the fries ($8). They’re covered in parmesan, garlic and herbs. They were some of the best fries I’ve had in Charlotte. — Ashley Mahoney, reporter

  • Of note: The vibe was phenomenal. We went in without a reservation on a Tuesday night a little after 6pm and had to sit at the little railing facing the window. The place was packed. Definitely make a reservation.

Chicken Pho and a Thai Tea with Boba from Phở Hòa

I tried Pho Hoa’s Chicken Pho ($15.40) with a Thai Tea with Boba ($6.25). This spot on Central Avenue was a quick, pick-me-up lunch, super filling and quick to order online. — Alexandria Sands, reporter

The cilantro roll from New Zealand cafe

I finally tried New Zealand cafe (better late than never, right?) on a recent day off. I don’t mean to be hyperbolic, but the cilantro roll is one of the best sushi rolls I’ve had in Charlotte. It’s packed with spicy snapper, cucumber, crab, smelt roe and scallions topped with salmon, thin slices of lemon, cilantro and smelt roe ($12.95). We played pickleball right after, so I can vouch for this as a light-ish lunch. — Katie Peralta Soloff, editor

Ba Mi Ped Broth from Deejai Noda Noodle Bar

I went to Deejai Noda Noodle Bar for their Ba Mi Ped Broth ($21.95). It usually comes with ramen noodles but I replaced it with their flat rice noodles. I go to Deejai for their noodles dishes but I never leave without ordering their sushi. It’s so good that I ate it before I realized I needed a photo. The chicken salad sandwich from Rosemont Market & Wine Bar

Rosemont recently updated its lunch menu and it now offers sit-down lunch. I went with a friend and shared a few dishes — the chicken salad sandwich ($12), burrata and frisee salad ($14) and mussels ($18). — Laura Barrero, editor

  • Pro tip: Call ahead if you can. I went on a busy and beautiful Friday and waited about 20 minutes before getting sat.

Shrimp and Carne Asada Tacos from Rally

I’ve been visiting Rally a lot recently for much more than just pickleball. Not only am I a big fan of their coffee bar, but I recently discovered their tacos to make for a solid lunch. I recommend ordering a couple different kinds — I went with one shrimp and one carne asada ($5.50 each). Another recommendation — if you’re looking for a place to set up shop during a workday, order and sit at the bar for a working lunch situation.  —McKenzie Rankin, reporter
