Carolina Panthers football will look different this season. Just maybe, it will give Charlotte something to cheer for.
Yes, but: Just don't read too much to their 0-3 preseason.
- Preseason is over and it's time to get ready for the regular season opener at Atlanta on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 1pm. The game will air on FOX.
Why it matters: This is the South and football is king, but the Panthers haven’t been good for a few years. They’re still aiming for their first winning season since David Tepper bought the team in 2018.
- The team’s hoping that a new head coach and a new quarterback will be enough to fill the stadium with more blue than the opponents’ colors.
Catch up quick: Here are a few of the Panthers’ biggest moves during the offseason:
- Frank Reich, the Panthers’ first starting quarterback in 1995, was hired as head coach in January. The franchise opted not to name interim head coach and Charlotte native Steve Wilks head coach.
- The Panthers traded up to draft the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner, quarterback Bryce Young, No. 1 overall in April.
- Running back Miles Sanders signed a four-year deal with the team as a free agent and veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen signed a three-year deal in March.
- Brian Burns is the face of the Panthers’ defense. The Pro Bowl defensive lineman is in the midst of contract extension negotiations with the team.
What’s next: The Panthers have Monday night football for their home opener on Sept. 18 vs. New Orleans at 7:15pm.

- The game will air on EPSN and ESPN Deportes.
Of note: Expect a different “Keep Pounding” drummer before each home game after the coin toss — this is a longtime tradition for the Panthers. The drummer gets the stadium hyped up by banging a massive drum four times to signify the four quarters of the game.
