The Exchange at 36th mimosa flight. Emma Way/Axios Charlotte
Sorry, weekend warriors. Bottomless mimosas aren’t allowed in North Carolina, but we found some boozy deals that should help fill that void.
Context: In North Carolina, it’s illegal to charge a set price for an alcoholic beverage when the quantity sold is unknown, which is why bottomless brunches are a no-go.
- It’s one of many strict alcohol laws in the state, especially in comparison to neighboring South Carolina and Georgia.
- In addition to unlimited drink restrictions, N.C. only allows state-owned liquor stores, and they’re closed on Sunday. Plus, restaurants, bars and beer/wine sellers can’t sell alcohol until 10 a.m. on Sunday (it used to be noon pre-brunch bill).
Flashback: Remember at the beginning of the pandemic when restaurant owners advocated for the ability to sell to-go drinks? It took seven months to make it happen, and still only one to-go drink per customer is allowed.
Yes, but: The restrictive alcohol laws haven’t stopped North Carolinians from having a good time. Restaurant and bar owners have found ways to keep customers happy at Saturday and Sunday brunches without breaking the law.
