rockin rolls sushi express in charlotte
The all-you-can-eat conveyor-belt sushi restaurant named Rockin’ Rolls Sushi Express is now open in Elizabeth next to Carpe Diem.
All of the fish is line-caught and tastes exactly like fish from Clean Catch in Myers Park. Kidding.
This is the third location for Rockin’ Rolls Sushi Express — their other two spots are located in Durham and Raleigh (both with a 3.5 out of 5 rating on Yelp).
“Kaiten-zushi,” known over here as conveyor-belt sushi, is common in Japan.
All-you-can-eat: It’s $12.99 for lunch and $16.99 for dinner. Yes, it’s all-you-can-eat. Rockin’ Rolls Sushi serves up about 50 different sushi rolls and Japanese dishes on its conveyor belts. Many people stuff themselves and then take an Instagram shot of their stacked sushi plates.
How it works: You pay before being seated (you’ll also be asked to tip then as well). You’re then given a seat number and go to that table.
Before sitting down, you’ll want to visit the corner of the restaurant to grab your chopsticks, soy sauce, wasabi and other condiments in the front right of the restaurant near the soft drink machine.
There is a constant stream of sushi, other Japanese dishes and even desserts coming out of the kitchen on two covered conveyor belts. You just slide open the clear covering and grab what you want. It’s pretty fun.
You can also order dishes from the iPad-like screens at your seat including crab rangoon, spring rolls, fried rice and hibachi. Protip: If you sit closer to where the sushi comes out, you’ll obviously have better selection.
Hours: Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dinner hours are 5-9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5-10:30 p.m. on Friday. Rockin’ Roll Sushi is open from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. The exact address is 1523 Elizabeth Ave.
We all know Charlotte loves new concepts — and whether you think it’s cool or gross, I expect Charlotteans will want to test out Rockin’ Rolls Sushi Express.
