6 highly anticipated restaurants and bars that are opening in February

February is a big month for the food and drink scene here in Charlotte with the debut of 6 highly anticipated new concepts. Here’s what you need to know.

Before we jump into February, here’s our guide to Barcelona Wine Bar which opened at the very end of January: 11 things to know about Barcelona Wine Bar, a Spanish-inspired tapas bar in South End

The Manchester

Projected Opening: Opening in the next week

Concept: Modern gastropub with a rustic English flare from the folks behind Essex Bar & Bistro and The Local in Uptown. Chef Haim Aizenberg is the same creator behind the menu at Essex in Uptown. But unlike Essex and its shareable small plates approach, The Manchester is dishing out full-size entree portions. Look for dishes like 12oz ribeye, cheesy shrimp and grits and a braised short rib sandwich.

Fun fact: The Agenda has also learned that there will be a speakeasy-style “secret room” with specialty cocktails.

Location: South End, 1812 South Blvd (taking the former Liberty space)

Hawkers Asian Street Food

Projected Opening: February 13

Concept: Orlando-based Asian restaurant inspired by hawker stalls of southeast Asia. Hawkers’ menu features “the best and most popular street foods from all over Asia,” including Singapore “Chilli” crab, Filipino-style crispy chicken skins and noodle soups. The menu is divided into five main categories: small plates, noodle soups, salads, noodles and rice dishes.

Location: South End, Design Center

Projected Opening: Mid-February, grand opening party on February 23

The Space: Expect a large taproom with high ceilings and a floor to ceiling Clint Eastwood mural when you enter Heist Brewery & Barrel Arts. Eventually, the space will have a huge covered beer garden, bakeshop, two event spaces and a separate area for their barrel aging program (thus, the name). It’s an ambitious project.

Location: It’s a quick 2.3-mile drive from Heist’s NoDa location (which will of course remain open). The huge building is next door to Camp North End. The exact address is 1064 Woodward Ave.

The Dunavant

Projected Opening: Mid-February

Concept: It’s a $25 steak & bottomless fries restaurant. The menu will feature a simple steak and fries style, prix fixe menu similar to something like Medium Rare in Washington DC.

For $25, here’s what you’ll get:

  • Bread: Fresh
  • Soup or salad: Dunavant Salad (organic salad greens tossed in their house-made vinaigrette) and an assortment of broth, cream, vegetable and beef-based soups.
  • Steak: Twelve-ounce seared culotte cut of steak (two servings of six-ounces each). If you’re never had a culotte cut, it tastes similar to NY strip. The steak will be served with your choice of seasonal sauce: cafe de Paris, grain mustard demi-glace or gorgonzola cream.
  • Fries: Unlimited servings of their house-cut French fries.

Yes, you get all that for $25. Damn.

Location: South End, 2322 Dunavant St. It’s near King of Pops and the intersection of Hawkins and Dunavant — walkable to Sycamore.
