Typically, I’ll order a Jam Session or Hop Drop from NoDa Brewing, but yesterday I ordered their new spiked seltzer named Brizo.
On October 24, NoDa Brewing released Brizo the public. It’s a 4.85% ABV gluten-reduced beverage aimed at the more healthy crowd looking for a different, low-calorie beverage.
Launch flavors include: Ginger Lime, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Raspberry Lemon and Lemon Makrut Lime. All four flavors are available on draft in their tap room and NoDa Brewing plans to distribute and can the spiked seltzer soon.
“We see this as an obvious next step,” said Todd Ford, co-founder of NoDa Brewing. “At any given time, you’ll find 20 different beer styles in our tap room; we’ve always been dedicated to providing variety to our consumers, and while this may seem like a departure from what we’re known for, this opens up an additional option.”

I love the growth strategy and it reminds me of Sycamore’s cider roll out.
Sycamore Brewing made a similar move in August with the creation of their tasty Wild Blossom Cider.
The cider has quickly become a staple at the popular South End brewery and on the shelves of Charlotte-area grocery stores.
According to owner Sarah Brigham, Wild Blossom will soon be in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores in Charlotte.
“One of Charlotte’s biggest Harris Teeters sold through an entire warm (non-refrigerated) display of cider last weekend,” Sarah told me. “Needless to say, we’re excited to see what Wild Blossom will do once it’s cold in all Harris Teeters.”

Don’t expect a cider-like bite, NoDa’s spiked seltzer tastes super mellow.
I ordered a flight ($8) of all four seltzer flavors at NoDa Brewing. For some reason (even though it’s illogical), I expected Brizo to taste like cider or a white wine. It doesn’t. It’s a super subtle, chill taste.
I couldn’t taste the alcohol. It went down super easy. It reminded me of a Sprindrift sparkling water.

Do I expect Brizo to eclipse popular NoDa Brewing beers like Hop Drop N Roll or Jam Session? Of course not. But it’s a great addition to their portfolio and absolutely worth a taste test if you’re looking for a healthier, more chill beverage.
