Goodwill opened another specialty shop today – and this time, it’s permanent

Executive Vice President of Business Enterprises Barbara Maida-Stolle said in a statement that Goodwill was “delighted to see the excitement for GW from the community last year,” and that its success has encouraged the business to open a permanent location.

This addition is the 24th Goodwill retail store in the region.

That location is Goodwill’s brand new Opportunity Campus on Wilkinson Boulevard in west Charlotte.

The store will employ 35 team members and create eight new jobs in the Wilkinson Boulevard corridor, which will generate $900,000 per year in wages and benefits. And through the services offered at the center as a whole, Goodwill is expecting to help people all over the area find stability and enough self-sufficiency to keep a job and therefore transform the community.

GW looks just like any specialty store you’d see in Charlotte – think places Julie’s, Ivy and Leo and The Impeccable Pig.

The design of the space is the key element to succeeding in this – it had to be visually appealing and feel trendy. The store is divided into sections by color, and each section has a display of accessories, home décor and full outfits within it.

Goodwill’s target audience is a group of women that aren’t necessarily millennials, but are fashion-forward, trendy and young at heart – who aren’t looking to “hunt” for their clothes in a normal Goodwill store.

The products are actually pieces that came from Goodwills around the area and are made up mainly of higher-end, youthful lines that most don’t expect to find in a Goodwill. Or aren’t willing to look.

That’s not to say that women are the only targets (though they’re major) – there’s a men’s section as well.

And unlike a normal Goodwill, there’s even less hunting to be done here, with the addition of price and sizing tags.

And for when you’ve worn yourself out shopping, head over to Community Table Bistro, a new café that uses all locally-sourced ingredients.

Once the outdoor seating is in place, you’ll have an incredible view of planes landing at Charlotte Douglas International.

Prices vary, but no meal is more than $7.99.

GW’s grand opening celebrations are taking place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. this morning. Normal hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
