Hello Tuesday.
You like food rankings and beer news. I do too. But from time to time, we need to nerd out together. This fall’s mayoral election is that time.
We’ve partnered with Amy & Elizabeth from #WTFWeVote (crazy smart political people) to host a non-cheesy Mayoral Forum at Blumenthal’s Booth Playhouse on Tuesday September 1 at 6:30pm. The format will be PechaKucha style where each candidate will present 20 images and have 20 seconds to talk about each. It’s going to be fast and fun. Confirmed candidates: Clodfelter (aka Monopoly Man), Peacock (aka Owl Bait), Davis, Howard and Roberts.
Get out of your comfort zone. Venue only holds 436, so register now (free).

10 things you don’t know about the toll lanes planned for I-77 north

Surfing in Charlotte
Paula gets the scoop from Adam Aldrich, the guy behind the Surfrider Foundation. Quick example of their impact: Members and volunteers clean nearly 2,000 pounds of trash from the Charlotte community each year. Side note: Paula has 12 surfboards, which it’s nuts.
City Smart: “Pop the Cap” Anniversary to Charlotte’s walkability score
Serious stuff: View the plan to transform the worst elementary schools in the state to charter schools, $50,000 cash price goes to QC FinTech from the Small Business Administration, and our walkability score is 24 (not good).
TALKING POINTS
Cam Newton and Josh Norman got into a fight at Panthers training camp in Spartanburg [Jones/Observer]. Watch the 27 second video. ESPN: “Newton had to be pulled off by teammates and called Norman a ‘pissant.'” Odd word choice. During the fighting trash talk, Newton said “Hit me like that again and you’ll know something.”
The Westin has partnered with the Humane Society of Charlotte to drive adoption awareness for local dogs in need by letting them live in the hotel [Levans/Agenda]. Wink, a 10-year old chihuahua got the red carper treatment (view photos). For real.
Chef Miles Payne has left littleSpoon for a job at Johnson and Wales. Miles will be a Culinary Demonstrator and will be visiting high school from Maryland to Georgia (kind of like a recruiter).

QCBC (Queen City Beer & Chili) is getting ready to open in Brevard Court [Williams/Agenda]. Build-out is complete. Waiting for inspections and permits. Two small batch chilis will be offered. Prices will range from $4-$13 for lunch depending on your appetite. View inside photo and food details.
Have a wonderful Tuesday and yes, I do wish I was on the 2nd-story of Leatherman’s driving range hitting some golf balls instead of working for the internet.
