Inside north Boulder's new French bistro

• The newest is Cinq à Sept, which opened in July at 4580 Broadway. The bistro comes from chef Samuel McCandless and restaurateur Bryan Dayton, and takes over the former Bellota and Restaurant 4580 space.

The vibe: Cinq à Sept literally translates to 5-7, and it captures the after-work gathering spot feel.

• If Colorado wasn't a romance hellscape, it would be a great date night spot.

What to expect: Cinq à Sept leans into classic French fare with a menu designed for sharing.

• Starters include steak frites and a $27 oyster plate, while the drink menu has French cocktails and wines.
• I loved the petrale sole à la meunière, a buttery and flaky flatfish dish. The lamb fusili was another standout, with the meat and sauce striking a good flavor balance.

And, yes, for that one guy, there is a burger.

• 🗯️ My thought bubble: I didn't order it, because you would make fun of me, but it looked reeeaaaally good.

Best bites: No matter what you order in between, start with the Brie and baguette and end with the crème brûlée.

• The baguette came out warm with a magical butter, while the dessert was sizable with a good sugar-crust to custard ratio.

If you go: Cinq à Sept is open 4-9pm Sunday-Thursday, and 4-10pm Friday and Saturday.

• Happy hour specials run daily from 4 to 5pm.
• The bar is first come first served, but diners can reserve tables online.
