Where to celebrate Oktoberfest in Austin

It's Oktoberfest season, and you don't have to go far to mark the occasion in Central Texas.

Why it matters: Despite its name, the German beer celebration begins in September. It's a fun way to ring in the fall season and honor the region's plentiful German heritage.

Grab your stein. Here's where you can get your prost on in Austin.

Banger's: Enjoy three days of cold beer, German-inspired food, firkin tappings, a stein host and live music from Sept. 25-27. 11am-11pm each day, free.

Hi Sign Brewing: Try Hi Sign's craft beer, including their Oktoberfest Festbier, along with live music and food trucks on Sept. 26. Noon-11pm, free.

Scholz Garten: Head to AustOberfest at Sholz's annual celebration on Oct. 3. Noon-10pm, $40 general admission.

German Free School: Celebrate in the historic gardens of the German Free School on Oct. 10, with German beer, live music and food. 11am-7pm, $18. Kids 12 and under get in free.

Zoom out: Beyond Austin, you can head to Fredericksburg for an authentic three-day Oktoberfest Oct. 2-4 filled with German traditions of music, games and food.
