"Slow down. You're already in Texas." TxDOT is posting safety messages on highway signs and on social media to remind people to stay nice on the roads.
Why it matters: The last day without a traffic death in Texas was more than 25 years ago — Nov. 7, 2000.
Driving the news: TxDOT is celebrating 12 Days of Safety by releasing public service announcements about safe driving.
In one, Blitzen, the reindeer, tells you not to drive blitzed. "Be the Texan that Santa knows you are," the advertising campaign urges.
What they're saying: The reminders pair with the agency's "Lessons in Texas" series featuring Carl Bailey, a former high school football coach turned actor.
"These Texas roads can feel like the Wild West sometimes, but when we treat each other with respect, that's how we all get home safe," Cowboy Carl tells a classroom.
