Construction continues on a series of projects around Longhorn Dam.
Why it matters: The improvements are meant to make the crossing at the eastern edge of Lady Bird Lake safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
Catch up quick: Construction began last year on the projects, including a new wishbone-shaped bicycle and pedestrian bridge as part of the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail and a new underpass beneath South Pleasant Valley Road for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The projects are expected to be close to complete by the end of the year.

Already finished: the installation of bollards to prevent vehicles from driving onto Krieg Fields and light fixtures in the newly dubbed Unity Underpass.

Yet to be completed tasks include a pergola and light fixture installation over a plaza in the center of the wishbone bridge, a drinking fountain at the Canterbury Street entrance, and the installation of a mosaic in the Unity Underpass.

What's next: The sidewalk along the west side of South Pleasant Valley Road will re-open Oct. 8, easing the way for trail users.
