😋 Asher here, your fearless sandwich correspondent.
What's happening: I recently stopped by the Uncle Nicky's on South Lamar Boulevard with my basketball buddy Mike.
Having just schooled some pre-teens at the South Austin Rec Center, we were feeling pretty good about ourselves.
Also: Hungry.
What I ordered: The excellent roasted porchetta sandwich ($17), with provolone, arugula, red onion, salsa verde — served on a restaurant-baked toasted focaccia.
The intrigue: I grew up in a home with no pork — we kept vaguely kosher.
Six-word review: Scrumptious sandwich with fantastically airy bread.
🇮🇹 Pro tip: Grab a tiramisu ($6) to share on the way out.
If you look closely, you can spot some spongy ladyfingers hanging out in there. Photo: Asher Price/Axios
The Uncle Nicky's version is high on the creamy side, making you feel like you're eating the dessert equivalent of a water bed.
