The University of Texas' iconic Cactus Café is celebrating 45 years as a live music venue with a special monthlong showcase.
Why it matters: Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams, Robert Earl Keen and David Ramirez are among the artists who had early career performances at the 150-seat venue, which opened in 1979.
Cactus Café, tucked inside the UT student union, is known for its weekly open mic night and continues to be a space for early-career musicians.
The series also will highlight students who have signed with UTalent Records, a university organization that serves as a full-service record label and music incubator program.
The first performance kicks off Thursday with Darden Smith. Tickets are $20 and doors open at 7pm.
Performances by Russell, Garza and Sir Woman are already sold out.
