You can still enjoy a complex drink without the alcohol this Dry January.
What's happening: East Austin's Este has teamed up with local brand Bawi Agua Fresca for lineup of mocktail specials.
A new mocktail will debut every week in January, with each spotlighting a different flavor.
The big picture: Among the January mocktails is Este's Early Bird, a nonalcoholic take on a tiki classic called the Jungle Bird.
The Giffard Aperitif Syrup mimics the bitter complexity of Campari, while molasses gives the mocktail a rich, rummy quality, according to Este's beverage director Patrick Wasetis.
Ingredients:
1/2 ounce of Giffard Aperitif Syrup
3/4 ounce of molasses syrup (3 parts molasses, 1 part water)
3/4 ounce of lime juice
2 ounces of Bawi pineapple
Instructions:
Add Giffard Aperitif Syrup, molasses syrup and lime juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Top with Bawi pineapple.
Garnish with pineapple frond and cherry skewer.
📍 If you go: Este will feature the Early Bird from Jan. 17-24. Reservations are available on OpenTable, and walk-ins are welcome.
