Austin-based Poppi launches Target collab

Austin-based soda brand Poppi announced a new apparel line with Target this week, the latest sign of the startup's rapid growth.

State of play: There's been an explosion of prebiotic beverage startups like Poppi, Olipop, Culture Pop, Vina and Mayawell seeking to disrupt the $110 billion soft drink market.

The companies make "functional" claims, usually related to gut health, and cater to Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
"Not to be confused with probiotics, which contain live microorganisms, these prebiotic beverages are infused with special plant fibers that feed the trillions of microorganisms that live in your gut," per the Washington Post.

Zoom in: All of the Target merch, which includes hats, socks, joggers and sweatshirts, cost less than $30 apiece.

🥤 What's next: The new line also comes with a limited-time flavor, Cream Soda, sold only at Target.
