Texas Monthly podcast gets streaming TV treatment

The big picture: The new show is further validation of Texas Monthly's strategy to capitalize on its storytelling prowess and intellectual property.

Star power: Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a crisis executive at an oil company, in the new series based on the "Boomtown" podcast. It also features Demi Moore and Jon Hamm.

What they're saying: "People are hungry for human stories," Thornton told the Hollywood Reporter.

• "These days in the theaters, it's mainly event movies and superhero things and animated stuff and all that; there are a few human stories to come through. But these things are like a 10-hour movie that explore human beings."
