Elon Musk's brother will open Austin restaurant next week

Kimbal Musk, Elon Musk's younger brother, will open his downtown Austin restaurant next week.
Why it matters: It's the latest move by the Musk family to expand their footprint in Central Texas.
Driving the news: The Kitchen, a two-story restaurant on the ground floor of the Sixth and Guadalupe skyscraper, is accepting reservations for its Nov. 8-13 soft opening.
- The Kitchen first opened in Boulder, Colorado, in 2004. Kimbal Musk also operates the restaurant in Denver and Chicago.
- The Austin location is the first in Texas.
The big picture: The restaurant is a small piece of the family's growing influence in Austin.
- Elon Musk operates his Tesla Gigafactory in southeast Austin, and recent filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation show that he's planning to add more than 5 million square feet to the factory.
- He's been working to transform Bastrop County since moving his startup The Boring Co. to the area, and recently said he'd move X's headquarters to Bastrop.
- He's also purchased a $35 million compound in the area for his 11 kids, the New York Times reported.
What they're saying: "Austin is like a second home to me," Kimbal Musk said in a news release. "I'm thrilled to bring The Kitchen to this vibrant community, creating a space where friends meet, loved ones celebrate special moments, and the community gathers."
Zoom in: The Kitchen's menu will feature shared plates with flavors from Peru, Morocco and Japan, alongside Texas-sourced ingredients.
- The Austin menu will include The Kitchen's signature dishes, including grilled oysters, lamb arayas, gluten-free crab fried rice and Urfa carrots with whipped feta, toasted pistachio, mint and cilantro.
- Pasta options include gnocchi Bolognese and tagliatelle with duck confit.
The restaurant seats 211 guests and features a wine room and a private dining room that seats 12 guests. An upper-level private event space will open next fall.
📍 If you go: The Kitchen will open for dinner at 4pm daily, with brunch and lunch coming at a later date.
