Austin commuters clenching their fists on I-35 and MoPac can rest easy knowing they're at least not traveling as slow as drivers in San Francisco or New York, per a new report from Lyft.
What's happening: Theorizing that 20 minutes in congestion is worse than 20 minutes in free-flow driving, Lyft combined the average speed and commute time in 35 cities with at least 500,000 people into an overall metric.
Austin ranked 22nd.
By the numbers: Lyft rides to or from work locations in Austin during peak commute times reached an average speed of roughly 24 miles per hour over the last year.
But Austin commuters faced a slower commute compared to other Texas cities analyzed in the report.
Houston's commute was just slightly faster than Austin's — 24.22 compared to 24.04 mph — Dallas was 25.25 mph, San Antonio at 26.22 mph and Fort Worth at 28.25 mph.
