Austin Spurs hold basketball tryouts

Why it matters: We all wonder if deep inside we harbor some hidden talent — but seldom do we get to really test out our fantasies.

How it works: The Austin Spurs coaching staff will put players through drills to assess their basketball ability.

• Up to three players from the tryout will be eligible to receive an invite to Austin's training camp.
• Since 2013, 12 players from local tryouts have made the opening-day roster.

Zoom in: Last year's player tryouts introduced Luke Avdalovic and Yauhen Massalski, both of whom played collegiately on the West Coast, to the Silver and Black.

• Avdalovic, who co-hosts "The Walk-on" podcast, appeared in 41 games and averaged 3.7 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.8 minutes.
• In 27 games, Massalski averaged 4.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 9.5 minutes.

📍 If you go: The tryouts will be held at St. Michael's Athletic Center, 3000 Barton Creek Blvd., from 9am-noon, with check-in at 8:30am.

• Payment is $175 by card or $200 by cash.

Meanwhile: The Austin Symphony Orchestra is hosting auditions later this month.

• But, sorry, would-be Itzhak Perlmans … applications were due in early August.
