NightLight Series — a new movie-viewing experience — is coming to Austin, co-founder Patrick Cline tells Axios.
Why it matters: Traditional movie theaters are struggling to recover from pandemic closures.
What they're saying: "We really wanted to beef up the traditional outdoor movie night experience to make it feel like a mini festival," Cline says.
Between the lines: The company claims to be the nation's largest outdoor movie series and the only one for adults 21+.
NightLight currently operates in Columbus, Nashville, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Miami.
NightLight has dubbed its experience "social cinema."
Each event features local food trucks and restaurants, a curated drink menu, a DJ, lawn, and card games, and designated photo ops in locations close to the city's skyline.
What to expect: Screenings include classics like "Top Gun," "Bring It On," and "Jurassic Park," but no new movies.
Advance tickets are listed for $11 in most cities.
A season pass includes access to every event, early entry, and a vote on future movies.
What's next: Cline says the NightLight Series will open in Austin by the end of the year, but could not confirm the exact location due to contract negotiations.
