With the holiday season over and the commitment to New Year's resolutions fading, the Central Texas Food Bank is suffering a volunteer shortage.
Driving the news: The food bank recently texted supporters, saying they "still urgently need 200+ warehouse volunteers in the next two weeks."
What they're saying: The food bank is looking for volunteers to inspect, sort, clean and prepare donations for distribution, according to Sari Vatske, president and CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank.
"Volunteer rates are usually highest around the holidays, but tend to dip in the new year," Vatske told Axios.
Between the lines: Texas faces a higher percentage of households that are food insecure compared to the national average, making demand rise for food bank resources in Central Texas and beyond.
