Some Austin bands will get a little fancy tonight.
Driving the news: The genre-defying Indie Orchestra, which for a decade has paired indie rock, hip-hop, alt-country and pop acts with a live professional orchestra and chorus, performs tonight.
What they're saying: "This production has been a great opportunity to get all my friends in the same room," Brent Baldwin, artistic director of concert organizer Unwound Sound, tells Axios. "This is about people who sing in indie-rock bands or rap in hip-hop outfits and giving them a showcase and celebrating their songs by dressing them up in fancy orchestral texture."
"This is a dream for every musician," De Casper tells Axios. "I remember having dreams of going to the Grammys and having a symphonic arrangement of all my stuff and having it sound strong.
"The words I wrote to my songs are very personal, and now I get to hear 25 other people singing them behind me."
Our thought bubble: Austin has long been fertile for this kind of collaboration. Willie Nelson, after all, famously got the cowboys and hippies together.
Details: Proceeds from the concert, presented in partnership with KUTX 98.9 and Austin PBS, benefit the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.
The concert is sold out, but KUTX will broadcast the show at 8pm on Feb. 13.
